Taking a leaf out of India’s modern history
Amovie based on the aftermath of India’s former prime minister, the late Indira Gandhi’s assassination and its repercussions has been attempted by National Award-winning film-maker Shivaji Lotan Patil. The film, 31st October, stars Soha Ali Khan (above) and Vir Das, and is based on the true story of a family. It closely depicts one of the darkest days in Indian history.
Since the movie is based on a real incident, the makers shot it at real locations, including Delhi and Punjab. Writer-producer Harry Sachdeva, who interacted with the survivors of the incident, says, “31st October showcases a sensitive and real story of Indian history. This needs to be told, especially to the youth, who may not be aware of what happened after Indira Gandhi’s assassination.” Vir Das says, “31st October is an inspiring story of a family — a husband, his wife and their three children and how they escape from the circumstances.”
