Taapsee pannu, who has portrayed strong characters in Naam Shabana and Pink (2016), has been active in supporting the cause of women’s rights. Taking a step further in the direction, the actor is now promoting self-defence training for girls. Recently, she visited her alma mater, Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Delhi to encourage girls to take up self-defence classes.

And that is not all. The actor will also be seen as a special guest at another selfdefence training event in the city on September 10. Akshay Kumar, who is also a part of the event, has joined hands with Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray and collaborated with FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation) to launch a martial arts event where they will give selfdefence training sessions to women in suburban Mumbai. Taapsee will be seen interacting with the audience at the event.

Taapsee, too, practices martial arts as part of her fitness routine, and believes it is the best way to “remain fit” and “learn self-defence”. Taapsee says, “I have always talked about the importance of girls learning self-defence. It is more than just learning martial arts. It’s about instilling a sense of confidence amongst girls that they are capable of taking care of themselves. They need to be their own heroes. It’s nice to share the stage with credible people in the society who share the same perspective on this topic. I am thankful for this opportunity.”
