‘It’s heartening to see abusers being shunned’
Producer Harvey Weinstein and stars Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Spacey could be big names in Hollywood, but allegations of sexual misconduct have made companies boycott them. Their stature didn’t become their refuge. Actor Nimrat Kaur, who has worked in Western TV shows such as Homeland and Wayward Pines, says that she is happy to see that Hollywood shunned a number of celebrities accused of sexual harassment.
“It comes down to how much support one gets from the system in such situations. In this case, it’s heartening to see that companies in the West have shunned some of the biggest names. They are not scared,” she says.
She adds, “We live in a society where worse has happened to girls…there have been incidents where women have had to face aggressive behaviour. It is not restricted to the entertainment industry. It can happen anywhere.”
The actor says that when people come out in support of victims, it encourages other victims to speak up. “They get to know that if they will speak up, they will get support from the right people.”
