‘BOLLYWOOD GOT IT RIGHT AT CANNES’

Huma Qureshi says that no one went overboard with their outfits at the festival

From being someone who was body-shamed during her initial years in Bollywood to being a fashionista in her own way, actor Huma Qureshi (right) has stunned fashion critics with her impeccable style statements. Asked if she saw the dresses the Bollywood actors wore on the red carpet at Cannes this year, Huma says, “Of course! I always look forward to all the red carpet appearances and I’m always excited to know who is wearing what.”

So who was her favourite among Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor? “Oh, I loved all of them. Even Shruti Haaasan was there, and she looked great. They all looked so beautiful yet so different from one another,” says Huma, who attended the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 for her film, Gangs of Wasseypur. While many felt that Aishwarya went a bit overboard with her Cinderella inspired gown, Huma feels otherwise. “I don’t think anyone went over the top this time. Rather, I feel Bollywood has finally got it right after so many years.” But why is it that only fashion and red carpet outfits make the most noise at an international film festival? “Hasn’t that always been the case?” asks Huma, “Cannes has become synonymous with fashion, and style. Though our [Bollywood] films do get a chance to be shown there, but it’s much less. I hope we get more opportunities to take Hindi cinema to such a platform and get foreign media to talk about it.”
