JACQUELINE’S DANCE TRIBUTE TO MADHURI

Jacqueline Fernandez says that she feels ‘blessed’ to be recreating Madhuri Dixit’s iconic Ek Do Teen number for her new film

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez says that she has tried to pay tribute to Bollywood’s dancing diva Madhuri Dixit through her version of the foot-tapping number Ek Do Teen, from the 1988 film Tezaab. It remains one of the most iconic dance numbers of Bollywood — Jacqueline says that there’s no question of matching up to Madhuri, and that she’s a fan.

Asked if there was any pressure when she first heard that she was going to recreate this iconic song for a film that she’s doing, Jacqueline says, “I think that was my first stress that how can we recreate something so iconic? Like, ‘is it even possible’? It made things a lot easier for me when I understood that it’s not possible — we’re not trying to match up to what Madhuri Dixit and Sarojji ( Saroj Khan, choreographer) did.

“We’re honestly here as big fans of their work and more than anything, this is honestly a tribute to the amazing, iconic number that they gave to us.

“For me as an actress, this is such an honour and a lot of my actress friends were like, ‘We are so jealous that you’re doing Ek Do Teen. For any girl this would be a dream song.”

Jacqueline adds, “I feel really blessed that I’ve been given this opportunity. I always knew that I never, ever would be able to match up to Madhuri Dixit, and that’s not even something I’m going to attempt, because you cannot replicate someone like Madhuri Dixit. There’s only one Madhuri Dixit and I know that this is just my tribute to her.” The actor says that she has “connected with Madhuriji” to talk about the number, and that Madhuri and Saroj would be the first to see the dance sequence.
