Get ready for Zingaat
Karan Johar’s Dhadak — the remake of Marathi film Sairat (2016) features Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor reprising the lead roles of Akash Thosar and Rinky Rajguru. Sairat was critically acclaimed and a box-office hit. The song Zingaat from the film, became extremely popular and when the Hindi remake of the film was being made by Shashank Khaitan, it was decided that the song would be part of the project.
Johar was clear that he wanted to retain this song in Dhadak so he got music composer duo Ajay-Atul to work on this, and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya rewrote the lyrics. Talking about it, Ajay says, “When we wrote this for Sairat, we knew Zingaat would become extremely popular in Maharashtra because of the tempo, rhythm and catchy lyrics. In the Marathi version, the chorus was in English and for the Hindi version; we have added a bit of Rajasthani style of music.”
Reiterating that, Atul says that they were sure Bhattacharya would do a good job with the Hindi version. “We are very happy with the Hindi version too, because we were confident that he would write well. Amitabh knows how to make it sound right and put it all together.” Bhattacharya says, “Rewriting Zingaat in Hindi was a bit of a challenge because the original song is still very fresh and has reached a cult following. It did not make sense to replace the word Zingaat so we retained it and rewrote the rest of the song in Hindi. I have tried my best to make it fun. I hope this one too, resonates with the audience”
Khaitan was ecstatic to get Farah Khan on board who has choreographed this peppy number. The song launches today at 12.30pm.
Produced by Karan Johar, Zee Studios, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, Dhadak is slated to release on July 20.
