Yes, I am a bit of a mother-lover in real-life too, says Ishwak Singh

Actor Ishwak Singh didn’t even say it — yet the line from Veere Di Wedding (VDW) reminds people of him. He is the one whom Sonam Kapoor Ahuja calls ‘motherlover’ in the dramedy, which sends everyone into peals of laughter.

Ishwak reveals whether there’s any similarity between him and his on-screen persona of Nirmal, his character from VDW. “I portrayed the character in a certain way. I didn’t want to make him a momma’s boy. After my discussion with Shashanka Ghosh (the director), we realised that this is how the character needed to be played. Nirmal is just conditioned that way. We showcased a certain side of him, and the situations he is placed in make him seem like that. It appears as if he wants a girl who’s not independent, but that’s not how he is. He has an idea of love, and is very organised.”

So is he a ‘mother- lover’ in real-life too? “To answer your question, yes, I love my mother a lot, and I am a bit of a mother- lover!” (laughs)

Ishwak had earlier worked with Sonam in Raanjhanaa (2013). He played the role of a member of the theatre group that Sonam’s character joins. Thanks to both the films, Ishwak says, he has developed a comfortable equation with Sonam. “It’s amazing working with her. The first time I faced the camera was in Raanjhanaa. Sonam had joined the theatre group, Asmita, of which I have been a part of for many years now.

Aanand L Rai (director) wanted her to learn about street play.” About working with Kareena Kapoor Khan, he says, “I didn’t have many scenes with her, but she’s the undisputed queen.”
