Filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar has never found it hard to strike a chord with the audiences with his films. The crime thriller Gunday (2014), which had a triangular love story woven into it, the sports drama Sultan (2016), which dealt with a couple growing apart on the side, and the espionage thriller Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), which had a strong concern for human life at its core, all resonated with viewers. This Zafar credits to the real-life experiences and emotions he brings to his films.

“I never went to a film school to study movies. Most of my education has been from my real-life experiences. So, I try and bring my real-life emotions and experiences to my films,” Zafar says.

The 36-year-old filmmaker,

The otherwise highly health-conscious Pranitaa Pandit admits that it is Delhi, her home, where her diet goes for a toss, as she just concentrates on enjoying her time here.

“I love pan-Asian and Chinese food a little more than Indian, and Delhi has some amazing places to eat. I binge eat whenever I am in Delhi. Also, home-cooked food is something that I miss a lot, and so I gorge on it,” says Pranitaa, who was in town for some family time. who is currently shooting for his upcoming Salman Khanstarrer in Malta, says he purposely adds a sprinkling of emotions to his films.

“As humans, we are emotional. So, it is a conscious touch that a film needs to work emotionally for an audience and for a filmmaker when it goes out. That has been the practice for me from the first one,” says Zafar, whose started out with the 2011 comedy Mere Brother Ki

“I am not a diet when I visit Delhi. I eat anything and everything. I go for late night paan, hot chocolate fudge at [a popular restaurant]. I have many memories associated with it. You can’t possibly control your diet when you are in Delhi. So, I pre-plan accordingly,” says Pranitaa. Not just that, the city is home to the Uttaran actor, and she can never get enough of it.

“Delhi is my hometown. I’ve done my schooling here. I don’t get to visit Delhi often because of work [in Mumbai]. I visited Delhi more than a year back and every time I go there, Dulhan, having worked previously on films such as Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) and New York (2009).

For his new film, Zafar is bringing on-board his Tiger Zinda Hai pair of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, again. Titled Bharat, the film was supposed to star Priyanka Chopra before the actor backed out of the project, which is an official adaptation of the 2014 South Korean film Ode to My Father. Priyanka got engaged to I feel so nostalgic. I’ve spent my childhood there and I have memories everywhere, from the roads to the different places… from friends to love, everything began in Delhi. I used to love going to IIT Delhi, to drive around and have soupy noodles and coffee,” Pranitaa recalls.

She adds, “I remember each and every turn of Jor Bagh, where I used to stay. Lodhi Garden, Modern School, driving around India Gate, eating Paan here…these memories are very close to my heart. American singer Nick Jonas earlier this week.

Asked if he had to tweak the script for Katrina, Zafar says, “Whenever we do films, we cast the film and obviously alterations are made once an actor has been cast. Because this happened in such a short span of time, I just sent the script to Katrina and said, ‘You read it and you react as an audience’. When she read it, she called me back she said, ‘Nothing to say apart from I want to do a part’.”

The film also stars actors Sunil Grover and Disha Patani, and Zafar says, “When the film comes out, you’ll understand why all these actors are in the film and what their roles are. I have shot with Disha and she is fabulous.”

The recent announcement that actor Pulkit Samrat is set to turn choreographer and collaborate with Canadian rapper Tandeep Nagi for his upcoming track generated a lot of buzz. After all not many know that Pulkit has been fond of dancing since childhood, and he’s trained in Kathak.

“I used to take part in school functions and competitions. My mother (Deepa Samrat), who’s trained in Kathak, would choreograph them for me,” says Pulkit, who maintains that he can’t reveal much about the soon-to-release song with Tandeep. “It’s a stand-alone thing and we’re still working on it. The rap is like no other, we want it to make sense,” is all that the Fukrey (2013) actor says. It was, in fact, after watching this film that Tandeep decided to collaborate with Pulkit.

The actor shares that dancing is a talent that he has got from his mother. “Mom wanted to pursue dancing further but she could not, so I think she channelised it through me. I feel we children learn all the good things from our mothers. They are simply the best,” says Pulkit, who is all for learning more in the field of dance.

“I have been training under Melvin Louis and Dimple Kotecha. They’re very different people and their styles and training procedures are also different. Melvin is more into the improvised version, he mixes hip-hop, street style, Bollywood etc. He is more into the madness and gives me the freedom to try my own thing. Dimple, on the other hand, is a strict taskmaster. I’m learning Bachata from her,” says Pulkit.

Asked if he’s open to more international collaborations both as a choreographer and an actor, Pulkit replies in the affirmative. “Yes, I’m open to [doing] that,” he signs off.
