Gone are the days when it was raining festive offers - from free cars to holiday packages to Singapore and Malaysia. Freebies this festive season, however, could mean cash discounts.
With buyers becoming smart and not easily taken in by whatever they are offered, cash discounts work the best. Those wanting to make their home purchase during the festive season are in need of capital and thus prefer a cash discount instead of the free cupboards, white goods or furniture offered to them during possession of an apartment.
Also, discounts work best for affordable and middle income housing instead of high-end units.
“The consumer is more discerning today. One will, therefore, find more value-adds in terms of cash discounts, PLC waivers and free club memberships and car parking being offered rather than white goods or free cars,” says Kunal Banerjee, group adviser at VCorp.
