Com­pli­ance: Con­struc­tion projects in In­dia are ex­pected to com­ply with sev­eral tech­ni­cal pro­vi­sions that are spec­i­fied clearly in var­i­ous BIS (Bu­reau of In­dia Stan­dards) codes

Statu­tory body: BIS is the apex body which is re­spon­si­ble to set the guide­lines for earth­quake re­sis­tant de­sign, ma­te­ri­als and work­ing pro­ce­dures. De­vel­op­ers should fol­low the BIS guide­lines while car­ry­ing out con­struc­tion work

Main re­quire­ments: For an earth­quake-re­sis­tant de­sign, build­ings across the coun­try should have a struc­ture sta­bil­ity cer­tifi­cate from the struc­tural en­gi­neer re­spon­si­ble for the de­sign of the build­ing
