‘Parking i s the biggest problem’

Ihave been living in Vasant Kunj, Sector A, since 1993. Back then, the area was considered to be quite far from the main city. Gurgaon had not seen much development then, and Vasant Kunj was a rather isolated pocket with no good connectivity. Security was a problem too as the RWAs were not quite effective and there was no police patrol or any other security measure. That apart, there was a serious water issue and since we were getting water from borewells, it was not just unsafe for consumption but it also corroded pipelines due to its high salt content. The roads used to be deserted and not many would take a chance to step out late in the night. Shopping and medical facilities were also limited and there were not as many hospitals in the neighbourhood.

However, now, the area has undergone a sea change and a lot of these issues have been resolved. Vasant Kunj is now very much a part of the city. Connectivity has improved a l ot and t here are enough buses that ply along this route. The locality has a good green belt and prices have appreciated to a great extent here. For instance, when I bought my 3 BHK unit in Sector A, pocket BC, I spent a little over ₹ 2 lakh. Today, my flat is worth close to ₹ 2.25 crore, while a 2BHK top floor unit in the same block is in the process of getting sold at ₹ 1.54 crore.

The biggest problem now is parking. Parking facilities must be built within the colonies and the existing roads must be widened to handle the traffic volume. However, this is a great area to live in, and I’m happy to be here.
