From 2007 to Au­gust 2014, The Ya­muna Ex­press­way In­dus­trial De­vel­op­ment Au­thor­ity (erst­while Taj Ex­press­way) has ac­quired around 11,000 hectare of land from ap­prox­i­mately 334 vil­lages of dis­tricts Gau­tam Budh Na­gar, Bu­land­sha­har, Ali­garh, Ma­hamaya Na­gar (Ha­tras), Mathura and Agra. Out of 11,000 hectare, 4,150 hectare were al­lot­ted to Jaypee In­frat­ech for a six-lane ex­press­way, in­ter­changes and de­vel­op­ment of land parcels Land in Gau­tam Buddh Na­gar dis­trict was ac­quired at the rate of ₹ 800 to ₹ 1310 per sq m at dif­fer­ent points in time Un­happy with the com­pen­sa­tion, farm­ers ap­proached the Al­la­habad High Court from 2007 on­wards and de­manded that ac­qui­si­tion be can­celled. Ac­cord­ing to them, land was ac­quired un­der the ur­gency pro­vi­sion for pub­lic pur­pose but trans­ferred to a pri­vate de­vel­oper which was il­le­gal. In the first two cases - Bal­bir Singh vs State of UP and Nand Kishore Gupta vs State of UP, the ac­qui­si­tion were up­held first by the AHC and later on Septem­ber 8, 2010 by the SC Again in 2010, the di­vi­sion bench of the Al­la­habad High Court in the Naren­dra Road Lines Pvt Ltd vs State of UP up­held the ac­qui­si­tion for de­vel­op­ment of land parcels.
