Clear encroachments here

Located in Vikas Marg, Laxmi Nagar is one of the most congested areas in east Delhi. I have been staying here for more than 40 years now. This once used to be a peaceful area for residents. However, its closeness to central Delhi and good Metro connectivity with NCR has made it one of the most jam-packed localities in the city. As the shopkeepers open their doors, the area gets crowded with shopkeepers, visitors from localities close by and shoppers.

With shopkeepers keeping half of their commodities outside their units, garment sellers using pavements to display clothes, and shoppers parking on the main road, the area is not safe for pedestrians, young children and senior citizens. With time, the population exploded in the area, primarily because of owners letting out houses at throwaway rental prices. Though the consumption of power and water has more than doubled in the area, no extra transformers have been installed by BSES. As a result, summers are terrible. Almost every day during the summer months, residents are faced with major power cuts. Though the area has several playgrounds, these are not clean enough.

Shopkeepers must be limited to their premises and not allowed to encroach upon footpaths for storing and displaying commodities.

RWAs should be informed well in hand about power cut timings and parking problems must be addressed to make this a better residential area.
