POP­U­LA­TION 8.8 TO­TAL Cov­er­ing some im­por­tant as­sem­bly con­stituen­cies like Sadar Bazaar, Chandni Chowk, Model Town, Shal­i­mar Bagh and Ro­hini, the Cap­i­tal’s north and north-west zones form a sig­nif­i­cant base of vot­ers. Res­i­dents here have a host of ex­pec­ta­tions as far as prob­lems with in­fra­struc­ture, hous­ing and civic ameni­ties are con­cerned. Through the Metro has eased the traf­fic woes to an ex­tent, con­ges­tion is­sues are still faced ma­jorly by res­i­dents along the Outer and In­ner Ring Roads. From ar­eas in and around Delhi Uni­ver­sity to Model Town, Shal­i­mar Bagh, Pi­ta­m­pura and NUM­BER OF CON­STITUEN­CIES Ro­hini, com­muters strug­gle with heavy traf­fic. Res­i­dents have been de­mand­ing speed­ing up of con­struc­tion of fly­overs in ar­eas con­nect­ing ISBT to cen­tral Delhi and north-west Delhi. “If the outer and in­ner Ring Roads are merged, it will solve the is­sue to a great ex­tent. Other is­sues which are com­mon to the ar­eas in the north are se­cu­rity and park­ing. There are ar­eas where more street lights, public toi­lets and CCTV cam­eras are re­quired,” says Nand Kishore Kaushik, pres­i­dent, Green Apart­ments Res­i­dents’ Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion (RWA), Pi­ta­m­pura.
