‘We set up a centre for seniors’
Ihave been living in C block for the past 20 years. I came here in 1996 when I bought a 2 BHK flat for ₹ 6.75 lakh. Now, property prices have appreciated and the same apartment costs something around ₹ 95 lakh.
I have been holding the post of the president of residents’ welfare association of C block since 2000. The election to elect an RWA office bearer takes place every two years. We also have a federation of RWAs of all the blocks and pockets which is an apex
body to repre- sent Dilshad Garden.
Besides being the president, I am also the chairperson of Dilshad Garden Senior Citizens New Council, a nongovernment organisation and take up many social welfare activities in the colony.
We, t h e r e s i d e n t s o f Dilshad Garden, have taken a lot of initiatives to deal with our problems and taken steps to resolve our issues. As no recreational centre existed here, the senior citizens of C block requested the Delhi goverment to release funds for the same. We got the money in 2014 and set up the centre in the same year. We also organise a number of activities for senior citizens.
Our biggest issue has been the bad quality of drinking water for which we have requested the Jal Board to take adequate measures. We hope it will be sorted out soon.
There are five to six good schools and an equal number of good hospitals in the area. My experience of residing in Dilshad Garden has been very positive.
