Road closed, commuters forced to go an extra mile
Entry to Sham Singh Road was stopped two months ago due to a cave-in
LUDHIANA: The Sham Singh Road, which links Ghumar Mandi and Mall Road, has been lying closed at the entrance of the Mall Road for the past two months.
Closed due to a cave-in, the road is causing inconvenience to the residents and passersby. The entry has been restricted by putting bricks at the entrance. Earlier, the residents used to reach the Mall Road in just two minutes, but now taking a long route, they have to move towards the short lane that leads to the BSNL office, which further leads to the Bharat Nagar Chowk and the Mall road.
"We have to cover extra miles to reach to our destinations. If a cave-in has taken place then the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation should set the place right. Closing the road should not be the solution," rued Dolly, an area resident.
The owners of an under-construction building on the road also rued that earlier their con- struction material came directly through the Mall Road, but now they had to opt for a long route. However, certain area residents were happy over the closure, as they felt that it had led to a decrease in the traffic flow.
Showing ignorance, officiating Ludhiana Municipal Corporation commissioner MS Jaggi said he would look into the site and needful would be done at the earliest for the convenience of the residents.
