Two years on, reservation dept awaits facelift
LUDHIANA: It has been two years that Shailendra Kumar Budhalakoti, general manager of Northern Railways, had issued directions to revamp the reservation department of the Ludhiana railway station, but nothing has been done so far.
The department needs to be redone as there is not enough space for passengers to sit. Shalini Gupta, one of the passengers, said: "There are very less benches. The authorities should make more space and arrange more benches for the passengers."
The department also gives a dirty look, as the toilets are full of filth and are always stinking. It seems that they have not been cleaned for a long time, creating unhygienic conditions for the passengers.
Vinod Mehta, another passenger, said: "It is very difficult for us to use washrooms here. It seems that these toilets have not been cleaned even for once. People keep on smoking here and no one even bothers to stop them."
Budhalakoti had also passed orders to update computers at the department to speed up the reservation procedure, but that too has not been done yet. Even after two years the staff is using old computers.
When contacted, divisional railway manager Vishlesh Chaubey said: "I do not remember when the orders to update the reservation department computers were issued, but I think there is no need to replace or update them as they are working properly."
