‘CABLE OP­ER­A­TOR SELL­ING SET TOP BOXES FORCIBLY’

LUDHIANA: City res­i­dents who have sub­scribed to Fast­way cable net­work con­nec­tions com­plain that the op­er­a­tor blocks all chan­nels for three to four hours a day and has been ask­ing the cus­tomers to get set top boxes in­stalled.

Res­i­dents said the cable op­er­a­tor had been ask­ing them to pay for the set top box on the pre­text that wired cable con­nec­tions were be­ing phased out. Av­inash Sharma, res­i­dent of Kitchlu Na­gar, said, “The cable op­er­a­tor blocks all chan­nels from morn­ing till af­ter­noon. When­ever we call their of­fice, they ask us to buy a set top box of if we want un­in­ter­rupted ser­vices. This is noth­ing but a trick to fleece us.”

Du­gri res­i­dent Aman said the cable op­er­a­tor had in­stalled a set top box at their house and asked them to make the pay­ment, fail­ing which the cable sup­ply would be cut.

Jagjit Singh, res­i­dent of In­dus­trial Es­tate near Dhole­wal Chowk, said, “The cable op­er­a­tor made us buy the set top box forcibly. They started pro­vid­ing all chan­nels only af­ter we paid for the set top box.” When the reporter called Fast­way head of­fice pre­tend­ing to be a cus­tomer, cus­tomer care ex­ec­u­tive Chetan Sharma said, “In­stalling a set top box is com­pul­sory as we are phas­ing out wired con­nec­tions. We have pro­vided set top boxes to all cus­tomers in Sarabha Na­gar. Of
