Govt school lecturers demand change in policy
Under present rules, vocational teachers who are matriculate and diploma holders are promoted to the rank of principals on basis of seniority
LUDHIANA: Lecturers teaching Class 11-12 are not getting the practical allowance for taking science practical, only master cadre teachers are get the practical allowance of Rs 400 per month.
The government school lecturers association, Punjab held a meeting here and decided to protest against the Punjab government in Bathinda on October 2.
There are 13,500 lecturers working in the government schools of Punjab, out of which 1200 are from Ludhiana.
The government school lectures union of Punjab want correction in the 2004 education rules, which have fixed a 15% quota for vocational teachers when it came to elevation to school principals.
Talking to HindustanTimes, Sukhdev Singh Rana, general secretary of government school lecturers association, said, "We want the government to make amendments in its 2004 education policy as the government lectures who are graduates and post graduates are missing out on the chance of becoming principals." Under the present rules, the vocational teachers who are matriculate and diploma holders are promoted to the rank of principals on the basis of their seniority.
Rana added, “The grade pay of the lecturers must be increased to Rs 6,000 from Rs 4,200 and we want practical allowances for science lecturers."
