Govt school lec­tur­ers de­mand change in pol­icy

Un­der present rules, vo­ca­tional teach­ers who are ma­tric­u­late and diploma hold­ers are pro­moted to the rank of prin­ci­pals on ba­sis of se­nior­ity

LUDHIANA: Lec­tur­ers teach­ing Class 11-12 are not get­ting the prac­ti­cal al­lowance for tak­ing sci­ence prac­ti­cal, only mas­ter cadre teach­ers are get the prac­ti­cal al­lowance of Rs 400 per month.

The govern­ment school lec­tur­ers as­so­ci­a­tion, Pun­jab held a meet­ing here and de­cided to protest against the Pun­jab govern­ment in Bathinda on Oc­to­ber 2.

There are 13,500 lec­tur­ers work­ing in the govern­ment schools of Pun­jab, out of which 1200 are from Ludhiana.

The govern­ment school lec­tures union of Pun­jab want cor­rec­tion in the 2004 ed­u­ca­tion rules, which have fixed a 15% quota for vo­ca­tional teach­ers when it came to el­e­va­tion to school prin­ci­pals.

Talk­ing to Hin­dus­tan­Times, Sukhdev Singh Rana, gen­eral sec­re­tary of govern­ment school lec­tur­ers as­so­ci­a­tion, said, "We want the govern­ment to make amend­ments in its 2004 ed­u­ca­tion pol­icy as the govern­ment lec­tures who are grad­u­ates and post grad­u­ates are miss­ing out on the chance of be­com­ing prin­ci­pals." Un­der the present rules, the vo­ca­tional teach­ers who are ma­tric­u­late and diploma hold­ers are pro­moted to the rank of prin­ci­pals on the ba­sis of their se­nior­ity.

Rana added, “The grade pay of the lec­tur­ers must be in­creased to Rs 6,000 from Rs 4,200 and we want prac­ti­cal al­lowances for sci­ence lec­tur­ers."
