Sem­i­nar on de-ad­dic­tion or­gan­ised at GGNIMT

LUDHIANA: An in­ter­ac­tive sem­i­nar on 'Drug Ad­dic­tion and Dead­dic­tion was or­gan­ised by Gu­jrawala Guru Nanak In­sti­tute of Man­age­ment and Tech­nol­ogy (GGNIMT) in as­so­ci­a­tion with a cam­paign ' Sa­roor Bane Na­soor,' by a Hindi daily on Wed­nes­day.

The mo­tive be­hind the sem­i­nar was to ac­quaint the stu­dents with con­se­quences of drug abuse, since many stu­dents in­dulge in drug abuse.

On the oc­ca­sion the chief guest Dr RS Bha­tia spoke about the ba­sic hu­man brain struc­ture. "A per­son starts tak­ing drugs due to many rea­sons like peer pres­sure, over ex­cite­ment, fam­ily prob­lems, de­pres­sion and so on. This cir­cle be­comes un­stop­pable and spoils a per­sons life."

He also spoke about ad­dic­tion (a chronic re­laps­ing be­havioural dis­or­der) and var­i­ous types of drugs like stim­u­lants, de­pres­sants and an­abolic steroids.

Psy­chol­o­gist Dr Shilpa had an in­ter­ac­tive ses­sion with the stu­dents of BBA first year re­gard­ing pre­ven­tion and treat­ment of drugs ad­dic­tion. She spoke about var­i­ous prob­lems caused by drug ad­dic­tion and why peo­ple in­dulge into such wrong ac­tiv­i­ties.

Co­or­di­na­tor Prof GS Dua ex­pressed his grat­i­tude to the guests for en­light­en­ing the stu­dents.
