City decked up for navratara fes­tiv­i­ties

LUDHIANA: The aus­pi­cious nine­day fes­ti­val of Navra­tras com­menced on Wed­nes­day with the city tak­ing a dif­fer­ent colour.

Small and big pan­dals have come up in dif­fer­ent ar­eas. Puja sa­m­a­gri shops, es­pe­cially in the old city, are ready with beau­ti­ful idols of God­dess Durga, along with colour­ful chu­nari and ac­ces­sories to adorn the fe­male God­dess.

The tem­ples are shim­mer­ing and il­lu­mi­nated on the oc­ca­sion with peo­ple throng­ing them to seek divine bless­ings.

Shops are of­fer­ing a ready thali con­sist­ing ver­mil­ion, cam­phor, co­conut, bar­ley seeds, lo­tus. Restau­rants across the city are sav­ing the fast­ing city folk the task of pre­par­ing the navra­tri meal that uses spe­cial ingredients and is strictly veg­e­tar­ian.

The mouth-wa­ter­ing recipes are at­tract­ing the peo­ple who aren't fast­ing. Florists, clothes and sweet shops are wit­ness­ing a sharp rise in sales.
