LUDHIANA: A passenger, Arshad Ahmad Mir, assaulted Sukhwinder Singh, a personnel of the Government Railway Police ( GRP), in Mordhwaj Express.

Three GRP constables – Sukhwinder Singh, Madan Lal and Bishan – were conducting inspection on the train when they suspected two persons having something in their handkerchief. These persons were sitting on seat Nos. S2 - 25 and 26. When the consta- bles approached them for checking, Arshad Ahmad Mir suddenly threw the handkerchief out of the train and assaulted him.

The incident took place at 1am on Wednesday when Mordhwaj express was coming from Chakki Bank, said Ashok Kumar, head Munshi at GRP Police Station, Ludhiana.

“Arshad is a resident of Kashmir and we have arrested him as he tried to beat our constable. Presently, he is in jail and we have filed case No. 160 against him,” said Ashok Kumar.
