LUDHIANA: The first batch of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) who passed out recently protested against Punjab government at GADVASU on Thursday.

The students are protesting against Punjab government as they state that the government is not filling the vacant posts of veterinary officers in the different districts of Punjab and the students also demanded that the authorities of GADVASU should also support them to build pressure on the government.

On Friday, they would march towards the deputy commissioner's office to submit a memorandum consisting their demands.

The students held a protest march from College of Veterinary Science to Veterinary Clinics and blocked gate number five of the varsity for half an hour. The present batch of GADVASU also joined the agi- tating students to lend their support.

Talking to Hindustan Times, a pass out of GADVASU Manbir Singh said, "We are from the first batch of GADVASU which passed out this year but we do not have jobs. Out of the 92 students only 4 got jobs in the private sector while the others are still on the look out for one."

Manbir added, " In 2006, Punjab government advertised 542 posts of veterinary officers in Punjab and every year the advertises these posts but this year no such step has been taken even as 147 seats lie vacant."

President of Punjab Veterinary Doctors Association Dr Abdul Majit said, " Our association has urged the students to call off their strike as we have already spoken to the government. Even the concerned ministry has sought the record of number of posts lying vacant in the different districts and the government has promised to fill the vacant posts soon."

Jaskirat Singh another pass out said, "We approached the chief minister and concerned authorities but they did not help us and gave us fake assurances. We want that we should be adjusted in the vacant government posts on the basis of merit."
