New Shatabdi Express receives bumper response
LUDHIANA: The Shatabdi Express between Ludhiana and New Delhi launched earlier this month is running packed with several passengers here not getting tickets or being put on the waiting list.
Ramesh, in-charge of reservation at the local railway station said, “Most of the tickets are being booked in advance. Even the current tickets are selling like hot cakes. The response is good and none of the seats are going vacant.” He said several passengers had been put on the waiting list and the demand was as high as for the Amritsar-ludhiana-new Delhi Shatabdi.
“The train is running on time more often than the AmritsarLudhiana-new Delhi Shatabdi,” station superintendent Ravinder Sharma said. “The demand is such that people want it to be a daily affair instead of five days a week.”
That may soon become a reality as Ferozepur divisional rail- way manager Vishlesh Choube said they had written to the railway minister and he had assured them that from March next year the train would run daily.
The Ludhiana- New Delhi Shatabdi Express via Sangrur and Rohtak was flagged off by the union minister of state for railways KH Muniyappa at the local railway station on November 4. It starts from New Delhi at 7am and arrives in Ludhiana at 12.20 pm, while from here it departs at 4.40 pm and reaches New Delhi at 10.05pm.
