State team bags 6 gold medals in karate event
The team comprising students from city schools stood second in the championship; bagged 11 silver and six bronze medals
LUDHIANA: Punjab team having players from the local Bal Bharti Public School, Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Sacred Heart Convent School and MGM Public School while performing exceptionally well in kata and team kumite scored second position in north India by wining six gold, 11 silver and six bronze medals.
In the competition, six states of north India participated and about 500 players competed in the event.
The Punjab team participated in the North India Karate Championship which was held in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand recently. The tournament was organised by Uttarakhand Seishinkai Shito- ryu Karate Association which is affiliated to the All-india Karate Do Federation, Government of India, and the Indian Olympic Association.
DIG of Udham Singh Nagar Abhinav Kumar inaugurated the tournament.
The students who won gold medals included Shubham Chatkara of Bal Bharti Public School, Harkaran Singh of MGM Public School, Simranjit Kaur Bhandari, Anupreet Kaur and Manpreet Kaur of Guru Gobind Singh Public School.
