State team bags 6 gold medals in karate event

The team com­pris­ing stu­dents from city schools stood sec­ond in the cham­pi­onship; bagged 11 sil­ver and six bronze medals

LUDHIANA: Pun­jab team hav­ing play­ers from the lo­cal Bal Bharti Pub­lic School, Guru Gobind Singh Pub­lic School, Sa­cred Heart Con­vent School and MGM Pub­lic School while per­form­ing ex­cep­tion­ally well in kata and team ku­mite scored sec­ond po­si­tion in north In­dia by win­ing six gold, 11 sil­ver and six bronze medals.

In the com­pe­ti­tion, six states of north In­dia par­tic­i­pated and about 500 play­ers com­peted in the event.

The Pun­jab team par­tic­i­pated in the North In­dia Karate Cham­pi­onship which was held in Rudrapur of Ud­ham Singh Na­gar district in Ut­tarak­hand re­cently. The tour­na­ment was or­gan­ised by Ut­tarak­hand Seishinkai Shito- ryu Karate As­so­ci­a­tion which is af­fil­i­ated to the All-in­dia Karate Do Fed­er­a­tion, Govern­ment of In­dia, and the In­dian Olympic As­so­ci­a­tion.

DIG of Ud­ham Singh Na­gar Ab­hi­nav Ku­mar in­au­gu­rated the tour­na­ment.

The stu­dents who won gold medals in­cluded Shub­ham Chatkara of Bal Bharti Pub­lic School, Harkaran Singh of MGM Pub­lic School, Sim­ran­jit Kaur Bhan­dari, Anupreet Kaur and Man­preet Kaur of Guru Gobind Singh Pub­lic School.
