State IMA chief for 2013 felicitated
LUDHIANA: The newly elected president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Punjab, for 2013 Dr Manoj Kumar Sobti was felicitated at a function organised by the IMA here on Tuesday.
The function was attended by office-bearers of 26 branches from all over the state. Dr LS Chawla, founder vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, Punjab, said it was a matter to rejoice that Dr Sobti had been elected unanimously and hoped that he would take the IMA ahead.
Dr Kulwant Singh, president, IMA, Ludhiana, welcomed the guests. He complimented Dr Sobti for becoming the state president from Ludhiana after 22 years when Dr Iqbal Singh Ahuja was the president in 1989.
Dr Shiv Dutt, president, IMA, Punjab, for 2012 expressed confidence that Dr Sobti would bring laurels to the IMA.
Dr Sobti said he would emphasise over the agenda, including strengthening of doctor-patient relationship, construction of IMA House at Ludhiana, ensuring a doctorfriendly Clinical Establishment Bill and to streamline issues related to biomedical waste.
He also said he would also ensure that the order of the Supreme Court regarding violence against doctors was implemented in letter and spirit.
