Man held in fake immigration case
CHANDIGARH: A special investigation team (SIT), set up last week to curb fake immigration and emigration cases, on Tuesday arrested Charanjit Singh Bhatia for allegedly collecting money from persons on the pretext of sending them abroad.
Bhatia along with his wife and Aroop Bhattacharaya were running 'ACME Carrier World' in Sector 34. He also has an office at Prime Tower Building near Jalandhar bus stand. A resident of Punjab, Bhatia was booked in July under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC. He has been declared a proclaimed offender (PO) in anoth- er case.
The police said Bhatia used to take persons to Mumbai and provided them with fake visas for Canada.
The trio had allegedly duped persons from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh of over Rs 2 crore, police said.
The suspect is in four- day police custody and the investigation is going on.
