Chandi­garh Sci­ence Congress be­gins

CHANDI­GARH: The 6th Chandi­garh Sci­ence Congress (CHASCON) started at the law au­di­to­rium of Pun­jab Univer­sity on Sun­day.

The three- day fes­ti­val was in­au­gu­rated by Prof RC Sobti. Dr AK Singh, di­rec­tor hu­man re­source de­vel­op­ment (HRD), De­fence Re­search and De­vel­op­ment Or­gan­i­sa­tion was the guest of hon­our on the oc­ca­sion.

Dr YK Chawla, Dr MK Su­rappa, di­rec­tor IIT Ropar and Dr Manjit Singh, di­rec­tor Ter­mi­nal Bal­lis­tic Re­search Lab­o­ra­tory de­liv­ered lec­tures on the open­ing day of the event.

A large num­ber of stu­dents par­tic­i­pated in the Congress. Ac­cord­ing to the or­gan­is­ers, the three-day event, which will mark the cel­e­bra­tions of Na­tional Sci­ence Day and will in­clude young in­ves­ti­ga­tor awards and Chil­dren Sci­ence Congress.

Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion, Sobti spoke on the in­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary and bor­der­less re­search and stressed on the need to col­lab­o­rate across the sci­en­tific do­mains.

Sobti said the young gen­er­a­tion should take a holis­tic ap­proach to sci­ence and work on those ideas and prin­ci­ples, which would have ap­pli­ca­tions be­yond the labs.

AK Singh spoke about the use of ra­dio-trac­ers in health and dis­ease. Dr Chawla cau­tioned the younger gen­er­a­tion of haz­ards of obe­sity.
