Chandigarh Science Congress begins
CHANDIGARH: The 6th Chandigarh Science Congress (CHASCON) started at the law auditorium of Punjab University on Sunday.
The three- day festival was inaugurated by Prof RC Sobti. Dr AK Singh, director human resource development (HRD), Defence Research and Development Organisation was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Dr YK Chawla, Dr MK Surappa, director IIT Ropar and Dr Manjit Singh, director Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory delivered lectures on the opening day of the event.
A large number of students participated in the Congress. According to the organisers, the three-day event, which will mark the celebrations of National Science Day and will include young investigator awards and Children Science Congress.
Speaking on the occasion, Sobti spoke on the interdisciplinary and borderless research and stressed on the need to collaborate across the scientific domains.
Sobti said the young generation should take a holistic approach to science and work on those ideas and principles, which would have applications beyond the labs.
AK Singh spoke about the use of radio-tracers in health and disease. Dr Chawla cautioned the younger generation of hazards of obesity.
