HT Ludhiana Live - - City/sports - Ludlivedesk@hinustan LUDHIANA:

The shelved project site of multipurpose stadium on the Pakhowal Road has become an abode for slum-dwellers.

Even though a large part of the stadium has been encroached upon, the authorities concerned haven’t taken any action yet. People have encroached the certain area of the backyard area of the shelved multipurpose stadium on the Pakhowal Road. Moreover, people have access to electricity through illegal connections, indicating that the administration has failed to notice the encroachment. Residents of Pakhowal Road have alleged that encroachers in the backyard of multipurpose stadium create nuisance late in the night by consuming liquor. They have also erected a gate on the way, much to the inconvenience of the area residents as it has blocked the access to the street. Women living in the area are feeling troubled by the encrachers’ presence.

Residents alleged that even though they have brought the encroachment of the stadium to the notice of the Ludhiana municipal corporation and the authorities of the stadium, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Despite repeated attempts, officials of the municipal corporation were not available for the comments.
