Come April, Shatabdi to get 12 women ticket checkers

HT Ludhiana Live - - In&around - HT Live Correspondent ludhiana@hindustantimes.com LUDHIANA:

The railway authorities are going to form a special team of 12 women ticket checkers and two males that would be functional from April 6.

A railway official said, due to no proper checking in Shatabdi Express, Northern Railway authorities have decided to act tough to break the unholy nexus between the employees and touts.

The authorities have also decided to implement this plan in the wake of persistent complaints of commuters about utter chaos prevailing in the Shatabdi Express by male ticket checkers.

The authorities have taken this decision, keeping in mind the security of women in Shatabdi Express.

Passengers say that those planning to travel to distant places during summer vacation are the worst sufferers because most trains are packed to capacity and commuters prefer to get reservations of Shatabdi for a safe and comfortable journey.

But, touts and middlemen with the help of few employees make money from the passengers who want tickets urgently.

Senior divisional railway manager Ram Prasad says that in the last few months they have got some cases related to women safety in the Shatabdi Express.

He adds, “After getting the aforesaid complaints, we have passed instructions to higher authorities: a special team of 14 TTE and one invigilator would be deputed in train from next month.”
