Meet­ing on prop­erty tax fails to reach con­clu­sion

Yet again a meet­ing to dis­cuss tech­ni­cal­i­ties and unit value of the pro­posed prop­erty tax at the deputy com­mis­sioner of­fice on Tues­day evening failed to ar­rive at any con­clu­sion.

How­ever, it was de­cided at the meet­ing that lo­cal MLAs, mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner and deputy com­mis­sioner would meet again on Wed­nes­day to give fi­nal touch to the draft pro­posal and would seek ap­proval of the deputy com­mis­sioner.

The draft was dis­cussed for over two hours at the meet­ing, how­ever failed to reach any con­clu­sion with MLAs op­pos­ing di­vi­sion of zones by the mu­nic­i­pal cor­po­ra­tion.

Re­view­ing the opin­ions of the MC of­fi­cials and leg­is­la­tors, Pun­jab cab­i­net min­is­ter Sha­ran­jit Singh Dhillon, rep­re­sent­ing the state government in the meet­ing, pro­posed to sched­ule the meet­ing again on Wed­nes­day.

Ear­lier too, deputy com­mis­sioner Rahul Te­wari re­turned a draft pro­posal to the MC and de­part­ment of lo­cal bod­ies last week.

MLAs Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Simer­jit Singh Bains, Ran­jit Singh Dhillon, Surinder Dawar, Par­min­der Me­hta, rep­re­sent­ing MP Manish Te­wari, Sha­ran­jit Singh Dhillon from the state government and the MC of­fi­cials were pre­sented at the meet­ing.
