New base year for GDP, CPI data

The gov­ern­ment will come out with Gross Do­mes­tic Prod­uct (GDP) and Con­sumer Price In­dex (CPI) data with a new base year dur­ing 2019-20. At present, the base year for GDP is 2011-12, while it is 2012 for CPI. The base year for GDP is be­ing changed to 2017-18 and for CPI to 2018. Baseyear re­vi­sion is nor­mally done once in five years to ac­com­mo­date and fac­tor in changes that take place in the coun­try's econ­omy. The gov­ern­ment is also plan­ning to bring out an em­ploy­ment sur­vey by the end of this cal­en­dar year.
