Army Chief Re­leases Book on Rashtriya Ri­fles

NEW DELHI. A high- level del­e­ga­tion from the French In­sti­tute of Higher De­fence Stud­ies (IHEDN) visted In­dia March 16-26.

In­dia’s per­spec­tives on ma­jor re­gional as well as in­ter­na­tional is­sues. The del­e­ga­tion’s Ind ia pro­gramme took it to Delhi, Mumbai and Chen­nai.

In the course of stay, the IHEDN del­e­ga­tion par­tic­i­pated in a con­fer­ence by Mr Alexan­dre Ziegler, Am­bas­sador of France to In­dia, on strate­gic and bi­lat­eral is­sues. The del­e­ga­tion mem­bers also held dis­cus­sions with their coun­ter­parts at the Na­tional De­fence Col­lege, as well as with of­fi­cials of the In­te­grated De­fence Staff. Round- ta­bles with think-tanks USI, NMF, CAPS, CLAWS, IDSA and Gate­way House pro­vided them with fur­ther op­por­tu­ni­ties for in-depth ex­change of views.

NEW DELHI. Chief of Army Staff ( COAS) Gen­eral Bipin Rawat re­leased the book ‘Home of the Brave’ on the his­tory of In­dian Army’s Counter In­sur­gency Force, the Rashtriya Ri­fles (RR), in New Delhi March 27. The book is au­thored by Mr Nitin A Gokhale, De­fence & Se­cu­rity An­a­lyst and Brig S K Chat­terji (Re­tired).

‘Home of the Brave’ traces the early his­tory of the RR, its or­gan­i­sa­tion, in­clud­ing its rais­ing and sub­se­quent de­ploy­ment in Pun­jab, the North East and in Jammu & Kash­mir.

The RR, a for­mi­da­ble Counter In­sur­gency Force, has won many lau­rels in the op­er­a­tions. In ad­di­tion to ful­fill­ing its pri­mary man­date of se­cur­ing the Na­tion, the Force has also con­ducted sev­eral softer mea­sures to win hearts and minds of the peo­ple- a critical and valu­able prac­tice that the In­dian Army has em­braced.

The book also re­flects upon the role of the RR in strength­en­ing the pro­fes­sion­al­ism of the In­dian Army and mil­i­tary ethics and values through­out its rank and file.
