Mon­tek Singh Ah­luwalia has found him­self iso­lated even within the Plan­ning Com­mis­sion on his con­tro­ver­sial Rs 32 per day poverty line es­ti­mate. The Deputy Chair­man sum­moned the very able sib­ling duo of Ab­hi­jit Sen and Pronob Sen to help him out of his quandary. Ab­hi­jit, a mem­ber of the Plan­ning Com­mis­sion is a well re­garded econ­o­mist and poverty ex­pert, and Pronob a prin­ci­pal ad­viser at the Com­mis­sion is a former chief statis­ti­cian of In­dia. To Ah­luwalia’s dis­ap­point­ment, the broth­ers ex­pressed their in­abil­ity to dig him out of his self-cre­ated hole.
