AMAN MITTAL, 26, Entrepreneur

“When recession hit India’s private sector, we saw the opportunity to hire IIT graduates as faculty”

He might have been born with a proverbial silver spoon, but he’s carved out the gold trimmings himself. Born into Jalandhar’s well-known Lovely family, 26 year-old Aman Mittal might have inherited a slew of businesses across Punjab (sweets, auto rickshaws and the eponymous university), but the young electronics engineer and management graduate from the University of Southampton, UK, is the man behind making Lovely Professional University’s (LPU) India’s largest singlecampus private university.

HUGE POTENTIAL “We entered into education in 2001 with International Institute of Management, now renamed as the Lovely Institute of Management,” he says. “As we saw the potential in education, we started taking it more seriously.” That’s how the university came to be in 2005.

THE SHIFT Mittal worked at an IT company Mindtree in Bangalore before joining LPU in 2004. Earlier this year, LPU was adjudged the Best Emerging B School2011 in Asia at the Asia's Best B-school Awards, Singapore. Contact:tal@
