THE SEA BECKONS YOU

An opportunity to travel and a rewarding lifestyle are few of the offers up for grabs in this career

India Today - - ARMED FORCES -

So you always knew that the knowledge of the sea lead to the discovery of the world. But didn't quite figure out how you can be a part of this continuing phenomenon. Don't worry, because now you can.

When I joined the Indian Coast Guard, it was a fledgling organisation. During the past three decades I have seen this organisation grow, consolidate and emerge as one of the leading maritime law enforcement organisation of our country. Today, located strategically all along the Indian Coast and among the pristine island of the Andaman and the Nicobar group and the Lakshadweep, the Indian Coast Guard operates ships, hovercrafts, aircraft and helicopters, besides crafts and boats on a 24x7 basis.

I couldn't have asked for more from life. In the Coast Guard, I have commanded ships, big and small I have trained with best from the Indian Navy and other premier maritime organisations from all over the world. I have traversed international waters, visited foreign lands, fought the pirates on the high seas and provided succour to the marooned during national disasters in ' India and elsewhere. I have done it all. And more. The Coast Guard has not just provided me with quality life, but also brought me face to face with a plethora of adventurous moments, that even to this day I treasure each and every one of them. My mantle piece is full of trophies, mementos, crests and photographs. Each day when I get dressed in my white uniform and face the mirror the passion to serve the my country with pride is the foremost on my mind. Today, the organisation I work for, the Indian Coast Guard is regarded as one of the finest Coast Guards in the world. In a nut shell the Indian Coast Guard has carved a niche for itself among the populace both at the national and international fora.

I must underline here that the Indian Coast Guard is not merely a source of employment. It is where you play the most important role of protecting ' the national interests of your motherland in a dynamic environment. The Coast Guard has a dedicated and professional team of officers and men who operate ships, hovercraft and aircraft for safeguarding the country's maritime interests in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

As I write this the Indian Coast Guard is expanding like never before. It needs dynamic and young people, men and woman, who want the world on their plate, who breathe the spirit of adventure and for whom the word 'Action' is too trivial as they want more. Be it flying or sailing, or even diving, there are too many career options to choose. We need you. But are you ready to explore our world yet.
