She achieved the world ranking of 20 in international squash when she was 19 thus earning the distinction of being the youngest woman from India to reach that position. Winning titles and travelling across the globe for tournaments while juggling her studies alongside, Dipika Rebecca Pallikal is an achiever who has inspired many youngsters to take to the squash court. In October 2011 Pallikal’s title triumph in WISPA Dread Series 2 tournament in Washington shot her to the world ranking of 19. She became the first Indian to break into top-20 in the world rankings in squash.
GAME PLAN She played her first international tournament in London when she was in the sixth grade and won the French Open, Pioneer Open, Dutch Open, Nordic Open and Scottish Open in the junior category between 2004 and 2007. Pallikal was also the winner of the prestigious British Open Juniors 2008 which is the squash equivalent of the Wimbledon Juniors. If it was Joshna Chinappa who put Chennai on the squash map of the world, she carried the baton farther.
