India Today - - SIMPLY MUMBAI -

Meet Amrita Kak who is the female voice in the song ‘ Love me, love me’ from Wanted (2008) and ‘ Character dheela’ from Ready (2011). Every song that Kak has sung so far has made it to the top of the chartbusters. She made her debut with the

song ‘ Just chill’ from the film Maine Pyaar Kyun

Kiya (2005).

THE JOURNEY In early 2005, Kak got her first break while studying Humanities at St Xavier’s College. She auditioned for music composers SajidWajid, who were so impressed with the quality of her voice and style of singing that they offered her the opportunity of breaking into Bollywood with

the song ‘ Just chill’.

TRAINING MEASURES Kak learned Hindustani Classical at Mayo College Girls’ School in Ajmer. Later she was trained by Jaipur based Maand singer Bano Begum. However, it was only after Kak’s career as a playback singer took off that she developed an interest in improving her skill. Currently she is taking further training lessons in Hindustani Classical singing under Sarfaraz Khan.

THE MENTOR Actor Salman Khan is Kak’s guiding light. She was a shy person and was not comfortable singing in front of people. “It was a big battle for me. One needs to be smart in this industry,” she says. But Salman made her comfortable, asking her to sing impromptu while meeting at the music studio or his house.

second opinion

“Her voice texture is husky and authentic. She understands the portrayal of a song and is inquisitive about everything.”
