STORY TELLING

- ANIL DAYAL by Puja Raina

An interesting story becomes so much more when it is narrated well. The story telling classes at the One Up library are all about making stories come alive with elements of dance, music and drama thrown in. The place is an initiative by Dalbit Kaur Madan, who aims to popularise reading as a preferred activity amongst children in the city. Attempting to inculcate a strong reading habit in children, they have come up with innovative ideas like reading aloud sessions and theatrical performances. Interactive sessions with authors are designed to encourage young children to develop their communication skills through a wide variety of child-centered activities that develop their language. These activities also help develop cognitive growth through oral presentation, dramatic play and introduction to phonology (a prerequisite for learning to read).
