Sweet temptation

India Today - - SIMPLY KOLKATA - By Tithi Sarkar

If you like sweet golden rings with creamy frosting and glaze served deliciously warm, then The Donut Baker is the place to head to. The international doughnut chain arrived in Kolkata in May this year and has been an instant hit ever since, with over 26 varieties of doughnuts on offer here. The décor is bright, with cheery orange hues dominating the 50- seater restaurant on Park Street. Apart from ring doughnuts like plain honey- dipped ones with a choice of frostings like chocolate fudge, strawberry, maple, pista and chocolate swirl, there are also tart doughnuts available. Among their bestsellers is the Chocolate Bavarian doughnut which has a luscious layer of chocolate spread on top. Honey- dipped twists and bow- ties in quirky shapes make for interesting deviations from the regular shaped doughnuts. Plump and soft, all of the doughnuts have a neat combination of flavour and texture. The icing cracks easily and the fillings, although creamy, are on the thinner side. The only downside at this doughnut diner is the cramped two- seater tables. Also, finding your way to the upper level can be a challenge since you will have to navigate through a narrow alley to reach the steps located beside the order counter. Apart from this, it is a fun doughnut eating experience with efficient service and a collection of sandwiches and croissants also on offer. Price Rs 35 to Rs 40 per doughnut, exclusive of taxes Where 57 Park Street, Shop T3, 14 Park Mansion, Opposite Mocambo Restaurant Tel 40031347
