Bansuri Guru is a cin­e­matic trib­ute to leg­endary flautist Pan­dit Hariprasad Chaura­sia. Di­rected by his son, film­maker Ra­jeev Chaura­sia, the 60minute doc­u­men­tary be­gins with a nar­ra­tion by Amitabh Bachchan and chron­i­cles the life and work of Pan­dit Chaura­sia. Bachchan is just one of the many voices in the film; also seen in the film are santoor player Shiv Kumar Sharma, tabla player Zakir Hus­sain and dancer Kumar Mo­hanty, among oth­ers. His as­so­ciates and stu­dents re­call their guru’s sharp wit. Pan­dit Chaura­sia ap­pears oc­ca­sion­aly and talks about his ex­pe­ri­ences on screen. He also speaks about his own teacher, whom he fondly ad­dresses as Guru Maa. The film was pro­duced by the Films Divison of In­dia, and was re­leased by PVR Cinemas across In­dia in April.
