UNIVER­SITY OF CAM­BRIDGE

Gates Cam­bridge Schol­ar­ship

Gates Cam­bridge Schol­ar­ships are full- cost schol­ar­ships for stu­dents ap­ply­ing to the pres­ti­gious Univer­sity of Cam­bridge. They are awarded to ex­cel­lent in­ter­na­tional ap­pli­cants to pur­sue a full- time post­grad­u­ate de­gree in any sub­ject of­fered at the Univer­sity of Cam­bridge. Since the Gates Cam­bridge schol­ar­ship is known for be­ing highly com­pet­i­tive, stu­dents are ad­vised to ap­ply well in ad­vance. 90 schol­ar­ships are awarded to stu­dents an­nu­ally. Ap­pli­ca­tions are con­sid­ered if the stu­dent is ap­ply­ing to pur­sue any of the full- time res­i­den­tial cour­ses of study in PhD ( three year re­search- only de­gree), MSc or MLitt ( two year re­search- only de­gree) or a one year post­grad­u­ate course in MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma and MBA cour­ses. A Gates Cam­bridge schol­ar­ship will cover all costs of study­ing at the Univer­sity of Cam­bridge.

El­i­gi­bil­ity Stu­dents re­quire GRADSAF ap­pli­ca­tion form which in­cludes a Gates Cam­bridge sec­tion, aca­demic tran­scripts, 2 aca­demic ref­er­ences and 1 per­sonal ref­er­ence. The ap­pli­cants may also be asked to sub­mit a re­search pro­posal, an ex­am­ple of your writ­ten work and a GRE/ GMAT score.

How to ap­ply Ap­pli­cants are re­quired to ap­ply for both the schol­ar­ship and ad­mis­sion to their cho­sen post­grad­u­ate course at the Univer­sity of Cam­bridge via the Grad­u­ate Ad­mis­sions Of­fice, us­ing the GRADSAF form and sup­port­ing doc­u­ments. Ap­pli­cants must ap­ply to the Univer­sity of Cam­bridge and a Gates Cam­bridge Schol­ar­ship at the same time us­ing the same ap­pli­ca­tion pack.

PENN STATE UNIVER­SITY

In­ter­na­tional Stu­dent Schol­ar­ship

Penn State Univer­sity of­fers a gen­er­ous schol­ar­ship to in­ter­na­tional grad­u­ate stu­dents in their first year of study who are en­rolled in a full- time course at the Penn State Univer­sity’s Greater Al­legheny cam­pus. This com­pet­i­tive merit- based schol­ar­ship will help cover the full time tu­tion costs for in­ter­na­tional stu­dents. The schol­ar­ship worth $ 2,000 is awarded to 15 stu­dents. Penn State is a 150year- old univer­sity which also hap­pens to be Penn­syl­va­nia’s only land- grant univer­sity. It has of­ten been ranked amongst the best uni­ver­si­ties in the world. In 2013, Penn State ranked at num­ber 50 in the Cen­ter for World Univer­sity Rank­ings. It was also awarded the Best Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal by the US News & World Re­port for 2013- 14. Penn State is also known for it’s ex­cel­lent on­line ed­u­ca­tion. It’s on­line World Cam­pus grad­u­ated its first stu­dents in 2,000 and now en­rolls more than 10,000 stu­dents each year. In the US News & World Re­port’s 2013 Best On­line Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­gramme Rank­ings, Penn State World Cam­pus ranked in the top 25 for both its on­line un­der­grad­u­ate and grad­u­ate pro­grammes.

El­i­gi­bil­ity El­i­gi­ble ap­pli­cants must ap­ply to study at Penn State Univer­sity and should be in their first year. This award is not re­new­able and can­not be used at any other cam­pus.

ENGLISH LAN­GUAGE TEACH­ING IN THE UK

Hornby Schol­ar­ships

The Hornby Schol­ar­ship cov­ers full tuition fees for a stu­dent pur­su­ing a one- year full- time mas­ter's de­gree in any re­lated sub­ject to English Lan­guage Teach­ing ( ELT) in the UK. Es­tab­lished in 1961 by A. S. Hornby who au­thored the first Ox­ford Ad­vanced Learner's Dic­tionary, the A S Hornby Ed­u­ca­tional Trust seeks to pro­vide sup­port to English lan­guage spe­cial­ists, such as se­nior teach­ers, teacher- train­ers, in­spec­tors and ma­te­rial writ­ers.

El­i­gi­bil­ity Ap­pli­cants should have suc­cess­fully com­pleted an un­der­grad­u­ate de­gree course. It is manda­tory for them to have at least 5 years’ hands- on ex­pe­ri­ence as an English lan­guage teacher and have been in­volved in some sort of de­vel­op­men­tal work as train­ers or man­agers. Along with this, ap­pli­cants also need to give ev­i­dence that they have an IELTS score of 6.5, with no less than 6 in any of the cat­e­gories, or a cor­re­spond­ing score in a dif­fer­ent English lan­guage cer­tifi­cate exam like TOEFL or TOEIC.

CHEVENING SCHOL­AR­SHIPS UK Schol­ar­ships for In­ter­na­tional Stu­dents

Funded by the For­eign and Com­mon­wealth Of­fice ( FCO) and part­ner or­gan­i­sa­tions in the UK, the Chevening Schol­ar­ships are the UK govern­ment’s global schol­ar­ship pro­gramme. Out­stand­ing stu­dents with lead­er­ship qual­i­ties , high aca­demic po­ten­tial and com­mu­ni­ca­tions skills are awarded this schol­ar­ship. Typ­i­cally, most of the awards are for a year long masters de­gree. Chevening Schol­ar­ships cover a stu­dent’s tuition fees and a liv­ing al­lowance at a set rate for one in­di­vid­ual. In ad­di­tion to this stu­dents are also pro­vided econ­omy class re­turn air­fare to the UK as well as ad­di­tional grants. Some of the schol­ar­ships of­fered cover a par­tial amount of the cost of study­ing in the UK. For in­stance, tuition fees only or al­lowances only.

El­i­gi­bil­ity To be con­sid­ered for a Chevening Schol­ar­ship the ap­pli­cant is re­quired to have an IELTS score of 6.5 ( with a min­i­mum score in each com­po­nent of Lis­ten­ing - 5.5; Read­ing - 5.5, Speak­ing - 5.5, Writ­ing - 5.5), a PTE Aca­demic score of 58 or a TOEFL: score of 79. .
