TAKING THE LEAD
Next year in February, when Subir Roychoudhury retires as the chairman and managing director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. ( HPCL), he will make way for India’s first woman head of an oil company, Nishi Vasudeva, currently marketing director of the company. Once she takes over HPCL, Vasudeva will also become the first woman to head a Navratna public sector unit. This is yet further evidence of the growing prowess of women in previously unchartered sectors. The soft spoken Vasudeva is an IIM- Kolkata graduate with over 30 years of work experience behind her. Incidentally, she pipped six bigwigs to grab the top job thus joining a select league of top women head honchos in the country.
