As if Akhilesh Ya­dav didn’t have enough man- made— and some would say self- cre­ated— prob­lems, he now has an an­i­mal com­pli­ca­tion. An army of ro­dents has in­vaded the fifth floor of Lucknow’s Lal Ba­hadur Shastri Bhawan ( An­nexe), that houses the of­fice of the Ut­tar Pradesh Chief Min­is­ter. The rats are chew­ing up files, sta­tionery and even com­puter wires. They scoot from one end of room to an­other and are turn­ing in­creas­ingly feral. A ‘ spe­cial ro­dent erad­i­ca­tion plan’ has now been worked out by the state govern­ment di­rect­ing the main­te­nance di­vi­sion of the Pub­lic Works Depart­ment to make the CM’s of­fice a rat- free zone. The cost: Rs 1.85 lakh for six months.
