As if Akhilesh Yadav didn’t have enough man- made— and some would say self- created— problems, he now has an animal complication. An army of rodents has invaded the fifth floor of Lucknow’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan ( Annexe), that houses the office of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. The rats are chewing up files, stationery and even computer wires. They scoot from one end of room to another and are turning increasingly feral. A ‘ special rodent eradication plan’ has now been worked out by the state government directing the maintenance division of the Public Works Department to make the CM’s office a rat- free zone. The cost: Rs 1.85 lakh for six months.
