India Today - - COVER STORY -

Walk into the Sabyasachi store at Banjara Hills and you are sure to come away overwhelmed with the art that greets you from every corner— from antique clocks to tastefully designed lampshades, from framed black and white photographs to the dimly lit passage filled with ele- gant knick knacks such as antique pieces from the Nizam of Hyderabad’s crockery and a manicure set of the Nizam’s begum! On the first floor of the store is a table for two where you can order coffee and cookies from a small menu served in exquisite crockery.

The motley lampshades are also designed by Sabyasachi himself. The designer saris done up in a tasteful range of eclectic fab-

rics that define his signature style— net with silk or chiffons and georgettes and tusser silk— are artworks in their own selves.

Insider’s tip If you like a lehenga but would like want the embellishment work on it to be replicated on an anarkali instead, it can be done provided Sabyasachi is convinced.
