End of the Road?

India Today - - MAIL -

Emboldened by RJD’S Lok Sabha bypoll victory in Maharajganj and the BJP-JDU split in Bihar, an exuberant Lalu Prasad Yadav was complacent of staging a staggering comeback (“Sun Sets on Lalu Era”, October 14). But his conviction in the fodder scam upset his applecart and has rendered him ineligible to contest elections for six years after serving his five-year jail term. It seems to be an ignominious end of his long political career.

KESHAV PATHAK, via email Lalu’s sentence has sent a loud and clear message to one and all that no one— however powerful he may be—is above the law and everyone will have to atone for their sins. With the jail term, Lalu’s chances of a comeback have been badly shattered. Congress is likely to woo Nitish Kumar whereas BJP would strive to win over the Muslims and Yadavs, who used to support Lalu’s RJD so far. V.K.TANGRI, Dehradun
