2003 Mera Bharati Mahaan

India Today - - INSIDE -

In the wreckage of Digvijaya Singh’s defeat lies a terrible truth: If politics is about delivering intangibles then one of Congress’ pin-up CMs has failed to do just that. With no tangible development to couch the anti-incumbency, “Shreeman Bantadhar” (Mr Failure) had no answers for the lack of power, roads and employment and his social engineering, decentralisation of power and literacy campaigns had the hollow shrill of a broken conch. BJP’s Uma Bharati, a mass leader and public performer, had to do nothing but be herself: Honest, assertive, unpurchasable and mesmerising on the street. INDIATODAY, DECEMBER 15, 2003
