The Samajwadi Party ( SP) will stop at nothing to woo voters. The party is now trying to win over N.D. Tiwari to convince Brahmins of its intent. Embarrassed by his colourful antics, the Congress had sidelined the former chief minister. But on October 18, Tiwari’s 89th birthday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav went to his home on Lucknow’s Mall Avenue to wish him. His party’s defence for the sudden gesture was that it was being gracious to a former chief minister. It did not say whether similar courtesies would be extended to other former CMs— Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh or even Mayawati.
