He may be a new­comer but H.S. Phoolka, the Aam Aadmi Party’s ( AAP) nom­i­nee from Lud­hi­ana, is quickly im­bib­ing the cul­ture of po­lit­i­cal gim­mickry. On Fe­bru­ary 24, a day af­ter Naren­dra Modi donned a tur­ban to ad­dress Pun­jabis on the grounds of a su­gar mill in Ja­graon town, Phoolka and his sup­port- ers turned up with more than a hun­dred new brooms to sweep the venue of Modi’s rally. “They left the place filthy with all sorts of trash in­clud­ing empty strips of psy­chotropic drugs,” Phoolka said, obliquely ac­cus­ing the Akali Dal- al­liance of ig­nor­ing the grow­ing men­ace of drugs in Pun­jab.
