During Rahul Gandhi’s two-day Assam visit, the state Congress made every attempt to counter the impact of Narendra Modi’s rallies held earlier in February. While Modi had invoked Goddess Kamakhya in his speeches, a hurried trip to the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati was included in the itinerary of the Congress vice-president at the last moment. And even though Rahul didn’t mention the names of war legends Lachit Borphukan and Chilarai, unlike Modi, state Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said he saw the qualities of the two Assamese icons in Rahul.
